Diamond Dust - Shiva FFX by xRikku-chanx Diamond Dust - Shiva FFX by xRikku-chanx
One last Shiva photo until the finished costume will be fully debuted at hopefully Ohayocon, but probably Acen XP. Here it is picured a 80%.

Waist up is body paint (3 hrs with sponges and tiny brushes with majooor help by my darling :iconhiyoko-chan: *much love!!*). Waist down is carefully matched tights.

Wig is made entirely yarn, yes. YARN. haha

Costume made/worn by me (:iconxrikku-chanx:)

I considered doing Shiva, how hard was that wig? That is what has been stopping me! It just seems like it would be super weighted and overwhelming on the head

The wig was definitely a lot of why I was horrified to make this costume! I decided to go with yarn to mimic the look of dreads and I'm glad cause it was A LOT easier than working with wig fiber!! Unfortunately, because of school finals, I had to make this wig in like...2-3 days >< (along with the rest of the costume....) so it's not made EXACTLY how I wanted it to be. I would definitely have done things differently to make the big dreads thicker and less weighty. The yarn was put into the larger dreads and then glued to an old, cut up hat that was serving as a wig cap (it needed to be sturdier than normal wig mesh to support the weight). Oddly enough, the whole thing only required 2 large hairpins to stay on my head! It was DEFINITELY heavier than a normal wig (duh XD lol) but the weight was surprisingly less than I anticipated. It wasn't uncomfortable, just more than I was used to. Because of that and I thought my poor wig would die, I kept holding my neck in strange positions because the wig sort of threw off my center of balance and I was worried it wouldn't stay on my head...so I limited my body movement most of the day. So, by the end...my neck and shoulders were a bit sore...but I realized I could move a lot more than I had been! After relaxing those muscles while posing/walking, I was just fine :D I hope that helps! ><

WOW! yeah, I was trying to figure out a way to make the weight less by using less weft/wig hair...I had an idea of using this tube-like batting that is used as trim for pillows and just putting them at the center of each dread of hair. But, your idea of attaching the wig to a sturdier base is a great idea, I could just see the wig slipping away otherwise and that would be so tragic after all that work right?
And I think your Shiva is beautiful! For only doing that wig in a couple days is really impressive! How much do you think all your materials cost? (if you don't mind me asking) it's really the damn cost that is halting my Shiva cosplay

yeah! that's exactly what I was worried about! The hat definitely fixed that problem and kept the wig on my head better than just a normal wig. I think the batting would be a really good idea (I was thinking of doing something very similar with the yarn). For me....I spent about $85 just on materials for the wig, but I had quite a bit of left over yarn and also bought different kinds/colors of yarn. Though, the week after I bought everything, there was a big sale on yarn XDDDDD so I'd definitely look for coupons or wait for a sale :D

yeah, I was going to buy long weft pieces and putting the batting tube in the middle and buying a short haired wig that matched and trying to "sew" it all together..but maybe I'll try your hat idea (what type of hat was it? like a regular hat or a beanie?) I just don't want to try it my way and it ends up not working and I lose money on this cosplay lol (been there done that!)

Every time I see this costume I can't help but think "DEDICATION" in loud screaming letters.

I am surprized that you are able to keep the wig on - I would assume so much yarn would be heavy!

I was INCREDIBLY surprised it stayed on! XD hahaa and it stayed on for several hours too! It was rather heavy tho and at the end of the day my neck was a little sore, but overall...not as bad as I thought it would be! I heard some terrible stories from other Shiva cosplayers O_o
